The Colorado Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to support the deployment of troops from Ft. Carson "over there" in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. This is one of many deployments that will be happening over the next several days. This mission will consist of us greeting the troops as they arrive to the military terminal and prepare for deployment. After this, will hang out in the breakroom for awhile (usually a bit more than an hour) and then assemble again and salute the troops as they board the plane.
My personal opinion is that this mission type is by far the most important mission that we perform. We are the last civilians that these troops will see before they deploy, and I've heard on a number of occasions that having us there supporting them means more to them than anything.
Staging will take place at the end of the paved section of road near the Military Terminal at the Colorado Springs Airport.
To get to the staging location, take Drennan/Milton Proby east from Powers into the Colorado Springs Airport. Take the first right about 3/4 of a mile in and then make an immediate left. You'll notice large signs that point to Cresterra Pkwy and Bud Breckner Blvd. Depending on where you look, there also may be a sign that says Air Cargo road. These are all the same road and lead to a series of defense contractor buildings. Follow this around past the buildings until you come to the end of the pavement. We will stage in the right lane of the road at the end.
Stage: 2100 (9:00pm) Brief: 2115 (9:15pm) Depart: 2130 (9:30pm)
If you have not previously filled out the Dod Access Form and plan to attend this mission, please do so. Even if you have a valid military ID that allows you access to Ft. Carson you will NOT be allowed to participate in this mission unless your information is included on this form as well.
You can find the form and information about it here: http://forums.coloradopgr.org/topic56-ft-carson-and-peterson-afb-access-list.aspx
Hope to see you there. edited by CHARGER on 7/31/2010

Stage: 2100 (Noon) Brief: 2115 (12:15pm) Depart: 2130 (12:30pm)
I'm sorry, but those times aren't even close. 2100 (9:00pm) 2115 (9:15pm) 2130 (9:30pm)
Or is noon, 12:15 and 12:30 correct?

Just forgot to edit it when I posted. You'll note that this is the second send off mission of the day, and the other one is staging at noon.

Sorry you weren't there Abe, the brownies at the noon mission were delicious (and I ate one just for you!) Hope they have more this evening!

I plan on being at this send off. I may not be able to stay for the entire boarding though. Troops, ‘Be Safe’ and ‘Have a Safe Deployment’. Our thoughts and prayers are always with you. Thanks for your service and everything you are doing, for us, to ensure our freedoms. We will be standing for you upon your return safely home.
