On Saturday, May 19th, a Rocky Mountain Honor Flight will be returning to DIA and, as we have been for all previous RMHFs, are invited to the Welcome Home Ceremony. We will form a Flag line where the escalators bring the passengers from the train platform to arrival level 5. The flight is scheduled to arrive at about 8:00PM, so let's plan to stage near the escalators by 7:30PM. I will bring Flags.

The World War II Memorial was dedicated in April, 2004, 59 years after the War ended. The youngest of the WWII Veterans in 2004 was 77 and the average age was 81. The youngest are now 85 with an average age of 89. 16 million served in the US Military during the War and 405,000 were killed in service to our Country. These Veterans are dying at a rate of about 800 per day and less than 1.6 million (10 % of those who served) are still living and many of them are not healthy enough to travel. These Honor Flights are trips of a lifetime for most of these Veterans. An impressive Welcome Home at DIA completes a memorable experience for them.

For past Welcome Homes we have been allowed to park, for free, on departure level 6, East Terminal, against the wall across from the Terminal. I believe this parking arrangement will be in effect on May 19th, but, will confirm.

I will be at the Moonlight Diner @ 6pm. Trike is weather permits, or else cage.

I mentioned I would confirm the parking situation for the May 19th Rocky Mountain Honor Flight Welcome Home. The special/free parking arrangements will be in effect for this event. However, we have been asked to consider car pooling if not traveling by motorcycle, simply because of the space required for a well attended Welcome Home. For those who wish to meet early for dinner, let's gather at the Moonlight Diner, 6250 Tower Road, by 6:00PM. We will depart for the DIA Terminal by 7:00PM and perhaps we can do some car pooling from the diner.

Thanks.

Two things relating to the May 19th Rocky Mountain Honor Flight:
Wanda and I will have the honor of traveling as Guardians for these WWII Veterans.
Unfortunately, I have to retract the information about free parking for the Welcome Home at DIA. Due to a significant and long term construction project, there will be detours and limited access to the arrival and departure areas. Those who plan to participate may wish to meet at the Moonlight Diner and carpool from there in order to keep parking costs down.
Thanks.

Anderson, if you want to meet in advance at the Moonlight Diner, 6250 Tower Road, please plan to arrive by 6:00PM. The group will depart from the Diner for DIA by 7:00PM. You can do some carpooling from there. I have not been to DIA since the construction project began, but, I will be out there a time or two within the next week and will post information on traffic flow, detours and parking options at the Airport.

At the current time, traffic flow to the parking garages (east and west) is uneffected by construction at DIA.
