The Department of Defense announced today the death of an Airmen who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Airman 1st Class Matthew R. Seidler, 24, of Westminster, Maryland. He was assigned to the 21st Civil Engineer Squadron, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado. He died Jan. 5 in Shir ghazi, Helmand province, Afghanistan, when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device.

The United States Air Force and the Family of A1C Matthew R. Seidler requests the presence of the Patriot Guard Riders for memorial services to be held in the base theater on Peterson Air Force Base at 1300 hours (1:00pm) on Friday 20 January.

Staging for this mission will take place at the McDonalds on Airport Road just west of Powers Blvd in Colorado Springs.

Stage: 1130 (11:30am)
Brief: 1145 (11:45am)
Depart: 1200 (12:00pm - noon)

The Ride Captain for this mission is to be determined as I will not be able to make the mission. I have sent email to Robin in hopes that he can take this mission.

Remember that we will be riding on an active Military Installation and all ride requirements listed here must be followed: http://www.coloradopgr.org/MilitaryRideRequirements.htm

Bram, I will meet you at the base theater. I will have a flag line in place.

Attached is a map with the route from the west gate to the parking lot marked in red; the theater is circled in green.

Thank you to everyone who made this mission today on such short notice. This was a difficult day for Peterson AFB because A1C Seidler was the first casualty the base has experienced in the War on Terror. His commander asked me to pass on his sincere appreciation to each of you for what you do. It meant a lot to him, to the men and women in his unit, and to A1C Seidler's family that we were there to honor him.

We all know that what we do is not easy; we also know that it makes a difference... It definitely did so today...
